Day 43 - Getting Home (Part 3/3)

Hello friends! After  19537 km, 43 days, 10 provinces, 47 schools, 40 cities, 29 houses, and a lifetime of memories,  my road trip is now officially over as we made it back to Southern Ontario! It was such an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I am grateful for all of it. Today Vanessa and I had the longest continuous drive of my trip when we drove from Thunder Bay to Hamilton in ~16.5 hours. At this point in the trip, I had gotten so used to driving long distances, so the time just flew by. On our drive, we stopped in Wawa to visit Canada's largest goose, which was quite triggering but pretty cool to see. I also learned that aside from Mississauga in the GTA, there is Mississauga First Nation, which is located between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury along the Trans Canada Highway. After the long drive, we finally made it to Hamilton and met up with some friends at a pub called "The Snooty Fax" for dinner. It's been such a wild trip, with so many amazing

Day 42 - Getting Home (Part 2/3)

Hello friends, today was another crazy day en route to making it back home, with a few notable things that happened. We drove from Regina to Thunder Bay in just under 14 hours, and there was just this cathartic feeling of being back in Ontario that made me feel at home (even though we still have ~16 hours to get there). As Vanessa and I were  driving through Manitoba, we stopped at the (longitudinal) Centre of Canada, which was pretty cool. This means that I have been to the East-most part, South-most part, and centre of Canada... now all I need to do is visit the West-most and North-most parts when I ever make it to the Territories. We stopped for food in Kenora ON , which is a really scenic city to visit in the summer,  before continuing on the trip. The interesting thing about today's drive is that both Vanessa and I slept more in the car than we did last night, so it was a pretty silent drive throughout most of it (other than the tunes we had on the radio). Through Vanessa'

Day 41 - Getting Home (Part 1/3)

Hello friends, today was the first day of the trip back home, which Vanessa and I are doing over the span of 3 days (which is ridiculous). Today we drove from Revelstoke BC to Regina SK in ~12 hours, and only made 2 stops on the way (but Vanessa and I had some great life chats along the way). After finally leaving the mountains and hitting the prairies (which made the drive a lot easier, but significantly less scenic), we  stopped in Calgary to grab some food from Tim's, and then Vanessa took the wheel. As I was taking a nap, Vanessa tells me that the fuel light is on and that we were really low on gas, and the next gas station was half an hour away. After the most stressful drive of Vanessa's life and the lowest my fuel gauge has ever been, we made it to the gas station just in time before my car shut off. On our way out of the gas station, we drove by the World's Largest Teepee, which was pretty cool. As we entered Saskatchewan and got close to Regina, I got caught by a

Day 40 - UBC Okanagan

Hello friends, today I visited the last Engineering school on my trip, and it's quite a bitter sweet feeling given how much I've poured into this trip. We left Burnaby this morning, and on our way to Kelowna we made a bunch of pretty fantastic stops. We had breakfast at a place in Mission BC called Rocko's Diner, which is the location that was used in the filming of the TV show "Riverdale", which was pretty cool. Vanessa loves the show, so she was excited the entire time that we were there. I ordered the pancakes thinking it would be something light, only to realize that I ordered 3 pancakes that were over 1/2 a foot in diameter and about an inch thick. I was only able to eat one of them, and I didn't even have space to order one of their famous milkshakes (they had over 20 different flavours), which was a shame. Our next stop was in Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park where we went to visit the Othello Tunnels, which are a set of really cool railway tunnel

Day 39 - BCIT, SFU Burnaby, SFU Surrey

Hello friends, today was another fantastic day made even better by the people I was with. Today Vanessa and I left Victoria and drove over to Swartz Bay to catch the ferry back towards Vancouver. When we got to the terminal, we decided to "help the local economy" by buying hot dogs and ice cream from one of the stands by the terminal (because who needs a well-balanced breakfast when you're travelling anyways). After being on the 1.5 hour ferry trip, I dropped Vanessa off at the Pepsi Company in Delta so that she could visit her former co-workers (she joined us later on in the day by busing to SFU), and I started making my visits to the campuses I had planned for the day. The first school I visited today was the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), and in my personal opinion there wasn't too much to see there, but it was still neat to see how the school operated. All of their buildings are named in terms of where they lie on campus, for example the bui

Day 38 - UVic

Hello friends, today was a wonderful day with a lot of wonderful people, and there's a lot to talk about. If I can summarize it all, I would saw that Victoria is such an amazing city and I loved every moment of today! Our first stop of the day was by the British Columbia Legislature Building, which was a fantastic looking building (with not 1, but 2 fountains), where we met up with Eric and Rebecca, some of Vanessa's old friend from Mac. They came by with their 8-month-old daughter Thea and showed us around a substantial amount of DT Victoria. We walked by the ocean side for a while, and then stopped by the Mile Zero monument. The significance of this monument is that it is Mile 0 (i.e. the beginning) of the Trans Canada Highway, meaning that at this point I have driven the entirety of the highway on my journey, which is surreal to think about.  We then walked into Beacon Hill Park, and the first thing I saw was the World's Tallest Totem Pole (127' 7"); very g

Day 37 - UBC

Hello friends, today I visited my favourite campus so far, and I got to give my car a break by deciding to bus everywhere. Vanessa and I decided to go on separate adventures for most of the day, so I had a lot to learn about getting around Vancouver in a very short period of time. I got up this morning and took the bus to UBC, and it very much lived up to everything people have said about it and more. It was a massive campus (probably the biggest one I’ve seen so far), and it was the most beautiful university campus I have ever seen. At first I was lost when trying to find my way around, but I figured it out relatively quickly. The very first thing I wanted to visit was the giant Engineering Cairn that lies in the middle of the one of the major walking paths on campus. I can immediately tell how big the Engineering community is at UBC just by walking around, and the Cairn was very symbolic of that. They even have a street on their campus called "Engineering Road". As I
